December 7

"Happy Christmas", by Viggo Johansen

The Candlelight Carol
music by John Rutter, performed by The Cambridge Singers

How do you capture the wind on the water?
How do you count all the stars in the sky?
How can you measure the love of a mother,
Or how can your write down a baby's first cry?
Candlelight, angel light, firelight and star glow
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn,
Gloria, gloria in excelsis Deo!
Angels are singing; the Christ Child is born.

Shepherds and wise men will kneel and adore him,
Seraphim round him their vigil will keep;
Nations proclaim him their Lord and their Savior,
But Mary will hold him and sing him to sleep.
Candlelight, angel light, firelight and star glow,
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn,
Gloria, gloria in excelsis Deo!
Angels are singing; the Christ Child is born.

Find Him at Bethlehem laid in a manger:
Christ our Redeemer asleep in the hay.
Godhead incarnate and hope for salvation:
A child with his mother that first Christmas Day.
Candlelight, angel light, firelight and star glow,
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn,
Gloria, gloria in excelsis Deo!
Angels are singing; the Christ Child is born!

Sam and I are snuggled up in my bed together, and it's raining! We really enjoyed this, it fit perfectly for an early-morning snuggle.

This carol is one of my favourites, too-- when I was a child, the choirmaster at our church was ver partial to John Rutter's music. I am amazed by the fact that I can still remember every single word of all the lyrics!!

You have rain... and we are in the middle of our first snow storm up here in the Great White North! We put the tree up last night (and it didn't fall on me this year, thank heavens). To see the snow swirling white outside the window, while the Christmas tree lights softly glow, is quite magical.

Lovely to hear from you, Nan-- hug those little boys of yours for me.
