Happy Birthday!

Wee Three was watching television this morning, while I got myself ready to face the day.  It didn't take long before a small person manifested herself at my elbow, as I was applying makeup in front of the mirror.

Wee Three:  It said on the news that it's Nelson Mandela's birthday!

Me:  (trying not to poke mascara directly into an eyeball)  Yep.  He's 95 today!  It's pretty amazing!

Wee Three:  They said he was in the hospital...  I sure wouldn't want to be in the hospital for MY birthday...

Me:  Nope, that would be pretty crummy, all right.

The Wee One thought for a minute, and then looked at me with a deeply worried expression.

Wee Three:  Do you think they'll at least give him a CUPCAKE or something??!!

Oh, my dear...  that wouldn't even touch upon repaying him for all he's done for us...
